How do I transfer music from a PC/Mac to an Aurender?
There are a few ways to transfer music from your PC/Mac to an Aurender- via USB, or via your Local Area Network (LAN). The recommended method is to use a USB external drive connected to one of the Aurender's USB data ports located on the rear of the unit. You are then able to use one of the two copy functions available via the Conductor app, which are detailed below.
If you have music files on a PC/Mac, and this is currently the only location your music is located, we strongly recommend investing in an external USB drive of sufficient size to backup your content library (multiples if needed). If you have a NAS (network attached storage) for your music library, or plan to purchase one, it is still a good idea to have an external drive(s) filed away with your music content, in the instance the NAS file system is damaged or you suffer a critical hardware failure. The majority of NAS drives available on the market offer USB ports for transferring files to or from an external drive.
1. Copy to Aurender Function via USB
With a USB external drive connected to the Aurender, you can copy the contents of the drive using the "Copy to Aurender" function located under "Disk Information" in the Settings menu of the Conductor App.
This will copy the entire contents of the attached USB drive to the Aurender's internal hard drives.
Once the USB drive copy process has been initialized, the App will reflect the change of state as shown below. Also, the AMOLED front panel display of the Aurender will have a readout across the top- "USB Copying", with a countdown showing the time remaining.
2. Smart Copy Function via USB
You can also use the "Smart Copy" function, which is slightly different, and allows some versatility. Rather than transferring the entire contents of the attached USB drive, Smart Copy allows you to select which folders and files you would like to copy, and to where you would like them on the Aurender's internal disk drives. This is useful in the instance you have a USB external drive with information other than music files (i.e., photos, videos, or documents), or perhaps you have added to your music collection and only want to transfer certain folders or files.
First, make sure you have the "Aurender" button selected (1) so that you can browse the internal contents of the Aurender (as opposed to TIDAL or Qobuz, etc.). Next, tap the "Folder" tab (2) to view the list of available storage devices.
Select the USB folder option, and browse the contents of the USB drive until you find the folder you would like to copy to the Aurender. For example, in the screenshot below, we want to transfer just the folder labeled "Vinyl Rips". Select the folder using the round checkbox next to the folder name, as shown below (1). The text "Copy to (Aurender logo)" will be highlighted, tap it (2).
A window will appear asking you to select a target folder. You can select an existing folder, or you can select subfolders or create a new folder by tapping the folder name (e.g., Music 2).
To create a new folder in an existing folder, tap the "plus" button at the top of the window (1). This will bring up a window allowing you to input a new folder name (2). Once you have named your new folder, select the "Create a folder" button (3).
Once the new folder has been created, you can select it in the dialog window by tapping the round checkbox (1), then tapping "Select" at the bottom of the window (2).
A confirmation window will appear, asking you to confirm if you would like to proceed with the copy process. Please note, that unlike the "Copy to Aurender" function, all music playback will be paused during the Smart Copy process.
You can check the status of the copy process by selecting the "Copy Status" option.
3. Transfer Music to Aurender via Local Area Network (LAN)
You can also transfer music to the Aurender by accessing it from a PC/Mac on your home network. This process is detailed in the Aurender Quick Start Guide.
