Because Aurender music servers are not provided with any content (other than a couple of sample tracks), it is assumed that an Aurender music server acts as an additional backup of music that already exists on another storage device. Further, as there are complications that could arise in software with performing a write task to an external USB disk, a specific "backup" feature has not been implemented with Aurender music servers.
However, if there is music on the internal storage drive of the Aurender, the content may be transferred to a separate storage device by connecting to the Aurender from a Mac or PC as a shared folder on the local area network. Once the Aurender is mounted to a Mac or PC, files may be copied and pasted from the Aurender to a USB or a NAS drive accessible from the computer. It is also possible to schedule backups to a NAS (network attached storage) device from the Aurender as a shared folder.*
Please see the below links for backing up from either a Mac or PC. For scheduling backups to a NAS drive, please refer to the NAS drive's user guide.**
*When scheduling a backup from a NAS, the Aurender's internal hard disk drive(s) will be in use, causing additional wear and tear on the drive - it is advisable to only schedule backups occasionally or when major changes to the content library have been made.
**Note that NAS software options vary and this may be a simple or complicated task depending on the manufacturer of the NAS.
